If you do not get an apprenticeship position in a company, you can, under certain conditions, participate in external vocational training with a training provider.

External vocational training is an alternative to in-company training if you have not yet found an apprenticeship and have no perspective on how things should proceed in the future.

An out-of-company vocational training is also an option for you if your in-company or out-of-company vocational training was terminated prematurely and starting an in-company vocational training is currently not possible even with additional support. You can then continue your training with a training provider. The training period completed so far will – if possible – be taken into account.

In this context, it generally does not matter how old you are.

Your extracompany vocational training takes place in a recognized training occupation. Liberal professions and nursing professions cannot be trained extracompany.

Your training will take place with a training provider. The costs will be covered by the Employment Agency. You will receive a training allowance and are covered by social security.

Under certain conditions, you can also receive vocational training allowance.

For the theoretical part of your vocational training, you attend a vocational school. Your practical part takes place, depending on the model

• principally in the workshops of the training provider instead of including company-based training phases or
• generally takes place at a training company with which the training provider cooperates.

During the training at your training provider, you can, among other things,

• Tutoring in individual subjects or in learning the German language,
• Preparation for class tests and exams,
• Support with everyday problems,
• mediation talks with your trainers, teachers, and parents

received.

An experienced team of trainers, teachers, and social workers will accompany you throughout the entire time. Together with you, they will develop a completely personalized support plan based on the training framework curriculum.

During external vocational training, your transition into in-company training is supported.

Under certain circumstances, you can also complete your training on a part-time basis.

Even as a young person with disabilities, you can participate in off-site vocational training if your individual support needs can be met and the training enables you to participate in working life.

You can participate in out-of-company vocational training after a personal interview at the Employment Agency, provided the funding requirements are met, a corresponding measure is available, and a vacancy is open.

• Contact the competent employment agency and arrange a meeting. Feel free to use the website of the Federal Employment Agency to schedule an appointment for a personal consultation or to securely and conveniently submit documents and proofs online.
  • If you receive benefits under Book II of the Social Code (SGB II), the Jobcenter is responsible for you.
  • You can find the local office of the Federal Employment Agency or the Job Center responsible for you via the office finder. It depends on your place of residence.
• On-site, the career counselor from the Employment Agency will record your details and check whether you meet the requirements for participating in out-of-company vocational training.
• If this is the case, the career counselor from the Employment Agency will name the training provider suitable for your participation.
• The Federal Employment Agency will inform the training provider that you will begin your training with them.
• Before the start of your training, you will be invited by the training provider to an introductory or admission interview.
• You conclude a training contract with the training provider.
• If the practical part of your training takes place in a company, you also conclude a cooperation agreement with your training provider and the company.
• The training provider will inform you in writing about the start date and location of your training, as well as what you need to bring for the start.

There is no deadline. Out-of-company vocational training courses usually begin in August or September of each year. You should therefore contact the Employment Agency as early as possible before the start of the out-of-company vocational training to participate. Before the training begins, you sign a training contract with the training provider, which also sets a fixed timeframe for the duration of the training.
