If you are not yet in the workforce, career guidance will advise and support you with questions regarding your choice of career and course of study.

You have already left school or will do so soon, and are therefore faced with the challenge of finding a profession that matches your wishes, abilities, and interests. You are facing many questions. Career counseling helps you find answers and supports you by:

• To clarify questions regarding career or study content,
• Getting information about the training or job market,
• taking a career or study orientation test,
• finding a suitable career or degree program,
• finding an apprenticeship training position,
• to clarify questions about the application,
• finding alternatives to your desired career path in case you don't get an apprenticeship immediately,
• overcoming academic difficulties or financial hurdles during training

Even if you are considering changing your training or field of study or embarking on a new career path, talking to a career counselor can provide you with helpful information about the available options.

During career counseling, your professional desires, interests, and strengths are clarified in individual discussions in order to find suitable occupations or a suitable degree program for you. Career counseling can be followed by placement in a suitable apprenticeship position.

Career guidance in employment

If you are already in the workforce or have been in the past and wish to work again, the career counseling service advises and supports you, among other things, with questions regarding professional reorientation or new orientation, career path planning, and continuing education opportunities and their financing.

Career counseling in employment specifically supports you with:

• the consolidation of the employment or training relationship,
• professional reorientation or transition,
• Questions regarding returning to work,
• Questions on entering the profession after apprenticeship or studies and
• Questions regarding (financial support) options for professional development.

If you need assistance with career choice or professional orientation, you can schedule an appointment for an in-person, telephone, or video consultation with your local employment agency.

Appointments can be scheduled

• in person at your local employment agency,
• by calling the toll-free service hotline of the Federal Employment Agency,
• digitally via the Federal Employment Agency's eServices portal.

Career counseling also regularly visits schools and universities. As a pupil or student, you can therefore also have your personal counseling session at your school or university. Ask the career counselor for an appointment.
