Report a change in professional situation to the artists' social security fund

If you are not only working independently as an artist or publicist, but also pursue other activities or receive social benefits, you must report this to the Künstlersozialkasse.

Description

As a person who is self-employed in a professional artistic or journalistic capacity, you are generally subject to compulsory insurance in the statutory pension, health, and long-term care insurance systems via the Artists' Social Security Fund. 
However, only if certain exceptions do not apply or if you have primary insurance elsewhere. Should there be any fundamental change in your professional situation, you must notify the Künstlersozialkasse immediately. 
Examples of professional circumstances that can affect your existing compulsory insurance status with the Künstlersozialkasse: 

  • dependent employment
  • receipt of unemployment benefits
  • Receipt of citizen's allowance
  • other self-employed activities or commercial income
  • Equity investments in companies
  • Agricultural Activities
  • Commencement of studies
  • Federal Volunteer Service or military service
  • civil servant status

In addition, there are other professional circumstances that affect one's coverage under the Artists' Social Insurance program.

Procedure

You can notify the Artists' Social Insurance Fund of your change in employment status online or by mail.

Online message:

  • Access the online form on the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de. This will guide you step by step through the necessary information, which you can enter electronically. 
  • Note: For the online form, you will need your electronic ID document to log in. 
  • You will need approximately 15 minutes to complete the online notification. 
  • First, enter your personal details, including your insurance number. You can find this in the top right corner of letters from the Künstlersozialkasse.
  • On the next page, select the reason for your inquiry.
  • Selecting this option will provide you with general information regarding your inquiry.
  • Next, provide more details about your request and upload any necessary documents.

Notification by mail:

  • If you would like to report the start or end of employment as a dependent, please fill out the PDF form "Notification of the Start/End of Employment as a Dependent" on the Artists' Social Insurance Fund website. 
  • If you wish to report the start or end of your receipt of unemployment benefits or basic income, please fill out the PDF form titled "Notification of the Start or End of Receipt of Unemployment Benefits I and II or Basic Income" on the Artists’ Social Insurance Fund website. 
  • If you would like to notify us of your enrollment or withdrawal from a degree program, please fill out the PDF form titled "Notification of Enrollment/Withdrawal from a Degree Program" on the Künstlersozialkasse website. 
  • If you wish to notify the authorities of the commencement of self-employment in a non-artistic or non-journalistic field, or to register such a business, please fill out the PDF form titled "Notification of the Commencement of Self-Employment in a Non-Artistic/Non-Journalistic Field" on the Artists’ Social Insurance Fund website. 
  • If you wish to report the cessation of a self-employed non-artistic or non-journalistic activity, or to deregister such a business, please fill out the PDF form "Notification of the Cessation of Self-Employed Non-Artistic/Non-Journalistic Activity or the Cancellation of a Business Registration" on the Artists" Social Insurance Fund website. 
  • Please inform us informally of any other changes in your employment status.
  • Please always state your insurance number as well. You can find this in the top right-hand corner of the letters from the Künstlersozialkasse.
  • Sign your informal notification or the printed PDF form and attach the required documents.
  • Send everything together to the Künstlersozialkasse.

Please respond promptly to any inquiries from the Artists' Social Insurance Fund.
The Artists' Social Insurance Fund will review your information and notify you by mail whether your insurance status will change and, if so, how.
