If you wish to participate in the aeronautical and aeronautical radio navigation service, the BNetzA will assign you the call sign upon application with the Aircraft Station Licence. In addition, you must report changes, for example to the owner's address or the radio equipment.

Description

For communication and navigation, airplanes and balloons use the frequencies of the aviation and radio navigation services. The Federal Network Agency manages the corresponding frequency bands. If you want to use the aviation and radio navigation services, you need a call sign for the airborne radio station of your aircraft.

The call sign will be assigned to you upon application in the form of an Aircraft Station Licence by the Federal Network Agency.

You must submit an application if you become the owner of an aircraft with an airborne radio station. An aircraft is, for example, an airplane or a balloon.

If you already have an Aircraft Station Licence and the following changes occur, you must submit an application for amendment:

  • Modifications to the aircraft radio equipment
  • Changes to your name
  • Change of address for service
  • Changes to the domestic authorized recipient

Procedure

Online procedure:

  • You can access the form for the selected service via the federal portal account you chose (Federal User Account / Elster Organization Account).
  • Fill out the form online.
  • Upload further documents that you must attach to the application.
  • Submit the application.
  • You will receive the Aircraft Station Licence and the fee assessment with instructions on the right to appeal for download via the inbox of your account after successful processing, provided you selected this option in the application form.
  • Number allocations are subject to fees; a fee assessment notice for all of your allocations will be made available for download at a later date via the federal user account (Nutzerkonto Bund).

By mail/email:

  • You can find the application forms for the assignment of a call sign for an aircraft on the Federal Network Agency's website. These can be used equally for new applications, modification requests, and the processing of legal succession.
  • Fill out the form, print it out, and sign it.
  • Attach the required documents to the form.
  • Send your application documents as a scan via email, by fax, or by mail to the responsible office of the Federal Network Agency.
  • After successful processing, the Aircraft Station Licence and the fee notification including instructions on the right to appeal will be sent to you or your authorized recipient by mail.
  • Number allocations are subject to fees; a fee assessment notice for the entirety of your allocations will be sent by mail at a later date.

Costs & Fees

The amount of the fees is determined by the Special Fee Ordinance of the Federal Network Agency (BNetzA - BNetzAB-GebV) as amended.

If you have received a frequency assignment to protect against interference-free frequency use, you must pay annual contributions in addition to the one-time assignment fee. The amount of these contributions is determined, among other things, by the Frequency Protection Contribution Ordinance (FSBeitV) in its respective current version.
