Quick info

If you want to know what information is stored about you in the Central Register of Foreigners, you can, under certain conditions, obtain information. German nationals are not stored in the Central Register of Foreigners.

Description

The Federal Office of Administration (BVA) is a higher federal authority and is commissioned by the registry authority, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF), to provide information on stored data of data subjects from the Central Register of Foreigners.

The general database of the Central Register of Foreigners (AZR) stores the data of foreign nationals who are staying or have stayed in Germany not merely temporarily—meaning for at least 3 months—or for whom there is another legally defined reason for data storage, such as the filing of an asylum application. By contrast, the separately maintained visa database contains the data of visa applicants who generally stay in Germany only for a short time.

With the information provided to data subjects from the Central Register of Foreigners, you receive details about which of your data is stored in the Central Register of Foreigners.

Stored data can include, among other things:

  • Name
  • Place of birth
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Nationality
  • Marital status
  • ID document details

Note: According to the Central Register of Foreigners Act (AZRG), more or different data may be stored in the AZR under certain circumstances.

The data stored about you as a foreign national is governed by statutory provisions (Sections 2, 3 of the Central Register of Foreign Nationals Act [AZRG]).

Your right to request information serves transparency and data protection. You can verify the accuracy of your data and, if necessary, have it corrected by the responsible office.

In this way, you can also obtain information about any entry bans that may exist against you and the authority that issued them.

You can submit your application for information as a data subject from the Central Register of Foreigners online or in writing to the Federal Office of Administration (BVA).
