Quick info

If you have a disability and have not yet found an apprenticeship or training position after completing your compulsory education, you can participate in a vocational preparation measure that takes your specific needs into account.

Description

The rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation scheme (BvB) supports young people with disabilities who are quite suitable for an apprenticeship, but (still) unable to cope with the general requirements due to their disabilities. The goal is to prepare you for an apprenticeship and help you find a suitable training occupation. This can also be a specialized practical training program for people with disabilities. If it becomes apparent during the measure that taking up vocational training is not possible for reasons relating to your person, you can also be supported in the further course with the aim of taking up employment.

By the end of the educational program, you should have found answers to these questions: Where do my talents lie? What training should I pursue? What career can I imagine for myself?

The content includes, among other things,

  • Help with career orientation and career choice,
  • Imparting knowledge and skills to take up training,
  • the opportunity to subsequently obtain the lower secondary school leaving certificate,
  • Internships in various professional fields and companies,
  • Application training,
  • Help with finding training positions and, if applicable, jobs.

You can take part in a rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation training measure at an educational institution or in a vocational rehabilitation facility that is geared towards the special needs of young people with disabilities. Depending on the target group and equipment, the providers have their own training workshops, offices, and companies with disability-friendly workplace designs and provide you with pedagogical and, in some cases, psychological support. Vocational rehabilitation facilities also offer accommodation and leisure opportunities and are available for occupational medical questions.

If the Employment Agency is your responsible rehabilitation provider, it will cover the costs for this.

You receive financial assistance through transitional allowance or training allowance and you are covered by social security.

Notice for customers who receive benefits from the Jobcenter (Bürgergeld):

When participating in a rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation measure, you will receive an additional citizen's allowance bonus of EUR 75.00 per month starting July 1, 2023. You do not need to submit a separate application for this.

Whether you can participate in a rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation measure depends, among other things, on,

  • whether the measure is suitable for you and your specific case to increase your chances of starting vocational training,
  • what your personal inclinations are and how they can be useful in your professional life,
  • what activities you would like to perform and
  • how the training and job market is currently developing.

The rehab-specific BvB generally starts at the beginning of the training year in September and usually lasts up to 12 months. However, you can also start at a different time. Under certain conditions, an extension to a total duration of up to 24 months is possible.

Procedure

To be able to receive rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation measures, you must contact your employment agency:

  • To do this, make an appointment with the Vocational Rehabilitation and Disability Team at your Employment Agency.
  • If you do not yet have a personal contact person at the Employment Agency, please schedule an appointment via the service hotline of the Federal Employment Agency.
  • During the consultation, it will be determined whether the rehabilitation-specific vocational preparation training measure is suitable for you.
  • If your consultant determines that a vocational preparation measure specifically designed for rehabilitation is suitable for you, you will be registered for it immediately.
  • Your advisor will also discuss the forms you need to fill out with you. You can also fill out the documents online.
  • You will receive a written notification as soon as a participation spot becomes available.
  • The Employment Agency will register you at the educational institution or vocational rehabilitation facility.
