Report stay abroad to the Künstlersozialkasse

If you stay or work abroad for a longer period, this can affect your German social security. You must report any change in your situation to the Künstlersozialkasse in good time.

You are insured under the German social security system if your place of residence and place of work are within the Federal Republic of Germany.

If you move your place of residence or activity abroad, the Künstlersozialkasse must review your insurance.

To ensure your insurance coverage is guaranteed and that you can take out additional international insurance policies if necessary, you should clarify this question preferably before your move, the start of your trip, or your activity abroad.

You can inform the Künstlersozialkasse about your stay abroad online or by mail.

Online message: 

• Access the online form on the federal portal verwaltung.bund.de. This will guide you step by step through the necessary information, which you can enter electronically.
• Note: You need a valid ELSTER certificate to log in to the online form. Alternatively, you can use your electronic ID document.
• You need approximately 20 minutes to complete the online application.
• First, enter your personal details, including your insurance number. You can find this in the top right corner of letters from the Künstlersozialkasse.
• On the next page, select the reason for your inquiry.
• Selecting this option will provide you with general information regarding your inquiry.
• Then you provide the information about your stay abroad and upload any necessary documents.

Notification by mail:

• Fill out the PDF form "Notification of a Stay Abroad" on the Künstlersozialkasse website.
• Please also include your insurance number. You can find it in the upper right corner of the letters from the Artists' Social Insurance Fund.
• Print out the completed PDF form.
• Sign the PDF form and attach the required documents.
• Please refer to the instructions in the PDF form to find out exactly which documents are required.
• Send everything together to the Künstlersozialkasse.

Upon receipt of your notification, the Künstlersozialkasse will review your information and inform you by mail whether and, if applicable, how your insurance status will change.

If you have any questions or if further documents are required, the Künstlersozialkasse will also contact you by mail.

Please note:

If you receive a request to report your stay abroad to other agencies as well, please do so immediately.

Notify the Artists' Social Security Fund of your stay abroad as soon as it is confirmed. In any case, be sure to do so before your stay abroad begins.

There are no costs.
