Apply for compensation for radiation-contaminated game

If the game you have harvested is radioactive with a cesium contamination of over 600 becquerels per kilogram, you can apply for compensation for damages.

Description

Foodstuffs with a radiocesium content of more than 600 becquerels per kilogram may not be marketed in Germany and must be destroyed.

If the game you have harvested is accordingly exposed to radiation/radioactively contaminated and may not be marketed, it will be reviewed upon application whether you will be paid compensation for damages.

Provided the requirements are met, you will be paid a lump sum as compensation for damages, depending on the wild animal.

Submit your application (main form and attachment/s) for payment of compensation along with the above-mentioned supporting documents by mail to your responsible state office. They will forward your application (main form and attachment/s) to the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) after review, without the required supporting documents.

Further information can be obtained from your responsible state ministries, local authorities, and hunting associations.

Procedure

You must submit the application for payment of compensation in writing to your responsible state office.

  • Compile the required documents.
  • Download the application form from the Federal Office of Administration (BVA) website or complete it online.
  • Fill out the first page of the application form.
  • For each wild animal for which compensation is requested, attach the second page (known as the attachment) of the application form to your application.
  • Send the application (main form and attachment/s), completed and signed, together with all required documents to your competent state office.
  • The second page (the so-called appendix) will be filled out by the regional office responsible for you and forwarded to the BVA for further processing.
  • The BVA will review your application.
  • Upon approval, you will receive a notice of grant from the BVA, and the compensation will be transferred to the account you specified in your application.
  • If your application cannot be approved, you will receive a notice of rejection from the BVA.

Deadlines

  • Application deadline: The application must have been received by the competent state office within 3 years of the determination of the damage (date of radiation measurement by an approved measuring point).
