Description

The water register is an official registry similar to the land register. It records water rights and information on protected areas established for water management reasons. In addition, it provides environmental information and is important for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive. The register serves to provide an overview and evidence of decisions made by the authorities.

A water register records in particular:

  • granted permits and authorizations as well as old rights and old powers,
  • Plan approval decisions and plan permits,
  • Water protection areas,
  • Risk areas and designated flood plains.

Inspection of the water register is open to everyone. The water register is provided by the individual federal states.

In Hesse, independent fishing rights pursuant to the Hessian Fisheries Act are also registered in the water register.
