Apply for Economic Identification Number (W-IdNr.)

When you start an economic activity, you will be issued a business identification number (W-IdNr.).

In future, the Federal Central Tax Office (BZSt) will assign an economic identification number (W-IdNr.) in addition to the tax identification number (IdNr.) to every economically active person.

Tax authorities are thus able to correctly assign economically active legal entities to the respective acting natural persons.

The VATIN will consist of the letters 'DE' and 9 digits, thus corresponding in its format to the VAT identification number (VAT ID).

The BZSt will issue a W-IdNr. upon request by the competent tax authority and notify you without requiring you to submit an application.

The VAT ID number is not being issued at this time. Information will be provided to you in good time prior to its introduction.
