If you would like to know what information is stored about you in the National Weapons Register, you can request a disclosure.

Description

The National Weapons Register stores all important information on licensable firearms in private and commercial possession. Among other things, the aim is to be able to quickly verify for each licensable firearm,

  • who is currently the person in possession of the weapon,
  • since when he has owned the weapon,
  • where and by whom it was acquired and
  • how the weapon's history unfolded.

If you, as a natural person, hold a weapons law permit or own a weapon, you can request information about which of your data is stored in the register. Stored data may include:

  • Data about the weapons authority from which you received the permit to possess/carry your weapon. For example, these are
    • Name and
    • Address.
  • Data about you as the owner. These are, for example:
    • Name,
    • Address,
    • Date of birth,
    • Place of birth and
    • Nationality.
  • Data on your weapons permit, for example on the
    • Permit Type
    • Validity of the Permit
    • Permit Status
  • Information about your firearm. For example:
    • Manufacturer name,
    • Model,
    • Weapon category and
    • Caliber designation.
  • Information about your firearm part. This includes, for example:
    • Manufacturer name,
    • Model,
    • Weapon part category and
    • Essential weapon component

You can submit your application in writing, online, or in person at the Federal Administrative Office (BVA).

Procedure

You can apply for information from the National Weapons Register in writing, online, or in person. You can submit the written application by mail or in person on-site at the Federal Office of Administration (BVA).
Written application:

  • Go to the BVA website and fill out the online application form for information for affected individuals.
  • Print out the completed form and sign it.
  • Please mail the completed and signed form, along with the certified copy of your ID card or the certified signature, and any other required documents, to the BVA.
  • The BVA will review your application.
  • After the review of your application is complete, the BVA will send you the information regarding the stored data by post.

Online Application:

  • Go to the website of the federal portal and fill out the application form for data subject access electronically there.
    • Note: To use the online feature, you will need your ID card and PIN number.
  • Please attach scans of the other required documents.
  • Submit your application.
  • The BVA will review your application.
  • After the review of your application is complete, the BVA will send you the information regarding the stored data by post.

In-person application:

  • Go to the BVA website and fill out the online application form for information for affected individuals.
  • Print out the completed form and sign it.
  • Include all further required documents.
  • You can submit your fully completed application in person at the BVA in Cologne. You will then need to bring your valid ID with you. 
  • The BVA will review your application.
  • After the review of your application is complete, the BVA will send you the information regarding the stored data by post.
