Report suspected occupational disease to the statutory accident insurance

If you have any indications that an occupational disease might be present, you have the opportunity to report it to your professional association or accident insurance institution.

As an employer, you are required to report the well-founded suspicion of an occupational disease in one of your employees to the competent professional association or accident insurance institution without delay.

As an insured person, you can also informally report the suspicion of an occupational disease yourself.

Even as a doctor, you have the duty to report a suspected occupational disease. This applies to both outpatient and inpatient physicians. The professional association or accident insurance institution checks whether a disease exists and whether it was caused by work.

If the statutory accident insurance institution recognizes the occupational disease, it pays for all necessary measures to mitigate the consequences of the occupational disease and prevent it from worsening. These measures can range from medical care to professional measures.

Insured persons may receive a pension if, despite the measures, a physical impairment remains with a reduction in earning capacity (MdE) of at least 20 percent.

You can report the suspicion of an occupational disease online or by mail.

  • If you want to receive the reply from your statutory accident insurance institution in the inbox of your BundID account or Mein Unternehmenskonto, you must have an account and authenticate yourself.
  • If you would like to receive the answer by mail, you can also proceed without registration.
• Select your responsible professional association or accident insurance institution or find it using the industry search.
• Upload the required documents.
• Fill out the online form and submit it.
• Your report will be automatically forwarded to your trade association or accident insurance institution.
• You will receive feedback via your preferred method.

Online service of your statutory accident insurance institution:

• If you have access to the portal of your employers' liability insurance association or accident insurance fund, you may also be able to submit the report electronically there.

Message by mail (for businesses and physicians):

• Download the corresponding form from the DGUV website.
• Please provide any required information or documents.
• Send the form to your professional association or accident insurance institution.

Message by mail (for insured persons):

• Contact your professional association or accident insurance fund with an informal letter.
• Pay attention to the required details and enclose the necessary documents.
