If you, as a public transport company, transport severely disabled persons as well as their accompanying persons, guide, companion or assistance dogs, or carried items free of charge, you can receive a reimbursement for lost fare revenue upon application.

Description

The Federal Office of Administration (BVA) reimburses local and long-distance transport companies for lost fare revenue incurred from the transport of severely disabled persons and their accompanying persons.
You can receive a reimbursement for a completed calendar year. If you received advance payments for the billed year, the corresponding amount will be credited. 
The Federal Office of Administration (BVA) will reimburse you for local public transport costs for the transport of 

  • severely disabled people, 
  • their companions,
  • their guide, support or assistance dogs and 
  • carried items, for example hand luggage, wheelchairs or other orthopedic aids.

The amount of the refund depends on the respective percentage of your federal state or a reimbursement rate determined individually for you.

Procedure

You must apply for the final reimbursement of lost fare revenue in local public transport online or in writing to the Federal Office of Administration (BVA):

Submit application online:

  • Go to the Federal Portal website and fill out the application form for final payment online.
  • Please add the required documents as a scan. 
  • Submit your application online.


Submit application by mail:

  • Download the application for final payment from the BVA website.
  • Fill out the application. Print it out and sign it.
  • Send the signed application along with the required documents by mail to the BVA.
  • You can send the signed application in advance by email to the BVA.


Your application is being processed and reviewed by the BVA. If you meet the requirements for a reimbursement of the loss of fare revenue, the amount due to you will be transferred.

Deadlines

  • Application deadline: You must submit the application by December 31 of the third calendar year following the claim year. 
  • Time limit for filing an objection: 1 month after notification
  • Time limit for filing a lawsuit: 1 month after service of the opposition decision
