Implementation in Germany: Road Traffic Licensing Regulations

Key requirements for enterprise users: Thus, a bicycle must have two independent brakes, a high-pitched bell, as well as lighting equipment and several reflectors. Approved for road traffic is lighting only with the test mark of the Federal Motor Transport Authority (a wavy line, capital letter K and five-digit number).

A pedelec can have an electric assist motor with a maximum output of 250W and is allowed to provide assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h.

Manufacturer's obligation to provide information:

The manufacturer or his authorized representative must submit a copy of the EC Declaration of Conformity for each device/machine type to both the competent state authority (manufacturers based in Germany only) and the European Commission. The entry of the machine data by the manufacturer in the KarLA database satisfies this national obligation. After registration as a manufacturer, the data can be entered independently.

The European obligation can be met by also entering it yourself in the Noise Database carried out independently. The database can be found under „EC Declaration of conformity“.
