Apply for registration in the aircraft register for non-type-certified microlight aircraft

Gültigkeitsgebiet: Bundesweit

Description

The data of all domestically registered ultralight aircraft, ultralight helicopters, and gyrocopters are stored in the ultralight aircraft register. Only registered ultralight aircraft (UL) receive an identification mark.

Aircraft not subject to mandatory certification generally do not require a registration mark and therefore also do not receive an entry in the aircraft register. If you nevertheless wish to have a registration mark for your aircraft, you must apply for entry in the aircraft register.

Aircraft without mandatory certification include, for example:

  • Single- or two-seat microlight aircraft with a maximum authorized mass of up to 120 kg including harness and parachute system
  • Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)
    • Note: Will no longer apply in the future as part of the implementation of the European Regulation on the rules for unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). Then, instead of just being marked as before, UAS will also be subject to authorization and must be registered in a database.

To obtain an entry or a registration mark for your ultralight aircraft, you must either

  • German sample test or
  • demonstrate an EU type approval.

The air sports associations commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure are responsible for registering ultralight airplanes and ultralight helicopters in the Air Sports Equipment Registry. These are the

  • German Aero Club and
  • German Ultralight Flying Association.

Personal data such as the owner's name and address, as well as technical data such as the

  • Type and model of the aircraft as well as the airframe serial number,
  • nationality and registration marks of the aircraft and
  • the sheet number of the aircraft register.

As soon as anything changes in the stored data, you must notify the Federal Aviation Office or the authorized aviation association where your aircraft is registered. Under special circumstances, German authorities can access your data. This applies

  • for administrative measures in the field of air traffic,
  • for the prosecution of violations of aviation regulations or
  • for the prosecution of criminal offences or the prevention of threats to public safety.

Note:
For aviation equipment such as microlight aircraft and microlight helicopters, the commissioned aviation associations are responsible, in this case the German Aero Club or the German Microlight Aircraft Association. For all other aircraft, such as powered aircraft, gliders, motor gliders, or helicopters, the Federal Aviation Office is responsible.

You must apply for the registration or modification of your data in the ultralight aircraft register in writing by post or by e-mail.
