Unregister employees from social security

Gültigkeitsgebiet: Bundesweit

Online erledigen

Quick info

When an employee leaves your company, you must report the end of the employment relationship to social security.

Description

When the employment relationship between you and your employees ends, you must deregister these employees from social security.

The deregistration procedure is the same for all employees, with the exception of minijobs in private households. For minijobs in private households, you must use the household check procedure provided by the Minijob-Zentrale.

You must submit social security deregistrations electronically. If you use a system-tested payroll accounting program in your business, you transmit the reports using this program. This is done automatically. Alternatively, you can use a system-tested completion aid to transmit the data to the social security institution, for example the SV reporting portal.

When deregistering, you also indicate the contributory earned income for the reporting period.

Procedure

Depending on whether you handle payroll in-house or have outsourced it, you can create the deregistration yourself or have it created by your external service provider, such as a tax advisor, payroll office, or service data center.

  • If you use a system-tested payroll software, you can submit the report from this program with the reason for reporting "30", end of employment.
  • If you are not using a system-tested payroll software, you can submit the notification via a system-tested completion aid, such as the "SV-Meldeportal".
  • If you use the SV-Meldeportal, proceed as follows:
    • Go to the SV-Meldeportal website.
    • If you do not yet have a user account, please register for the first time.
    • Log in with your credentials, your ELSTER organization certificate, and your company number.
    • Under "Forms", select the "SV notification" tile and there the "Deregistration" form. Select the element "30 End of employment".
    • Fill out the form. All fields have help texts. A manual is also available.
    • You can find messages and feedback in your inbox there.
    • Save the message electronically or print it out and keep it with your payroll records.

Deadlines

You must deregister your employees from social security with the next payroll, at the latest 6 weeks after the end of the employment relationship.

Costs & Fees

The service is generally free of charge. If you use the social insurance reporting portal (SV-Meldeportal), usage fees will apply.
